A Sacred Circle: Ancestral Altars and Embodied Movement

Saturday, December 16, 2023

4:30–7 pm

Meet in the Rubin Lobby, 1st Floor

The holidays can lead us to miss loved ones who have transitioned. Remember them in an immersive workshop inspired by María Magdalena Campos-Pons: Behold. Tour the exhibition with curator Carmen Hermo and explore four decades of visionary artistry, blending photography, installations, painting, and performance. Then, join healing practitioner Lake E. to explore ancestral remembrance through ritual, movement, and meditation that embrace diasporic practices of altar-making, self-reiki, and dance.

Bring items that honor lost loved ones, such as a photograph (showing only the person who has passed on), small item of clothing, or piece of jewelry. Comfortable, loose-fitting, and white (not black) attire is recommended.

In alignment with the artist’s and Museum’s goals of supporting climate justice and youth arts, we will be accepting donations of cameras and film for ReglaSOUL’s youth photography program in Cuba.

Presented in partnership with the Culture LP.

Tickets are $25 and include Museum general admission. Member tickets are $20. Not a Member? Join today!
