Don’t miss this diverse program by the Brooklyn Symphony Orchestra with guest conductor David Hagy. Price’s Second String Quartet selection exudes a warm nostalgia, while Beethoven mischievously plays with the listener’s expectations in his Eighth Symphony. The program concludes with Shostakovich, who wrote his Fifth Symphony after being told that “your business is rejoicing!” The piece, embedded with the Soviet-era Russian composer’s complex sentiments about his oppressive government, beauty, and self-worth, features one of music’s most triumphant endings.

    Program:

    • Florence Price, Second String Quartet, second movement

    • Ludwig van Beethoven, Symphony No. 8 in F Major, op. 93

    • Dmitri Shostakovich, Symphony No. 5 in D Minor, op. 47

Advance tickets are available through the Brooklyn Symphony Orchestra at $15 for adults 65+ and Museum Members and $20 for non-Members; same-day tickets are $25 at the door. Free for ages 16 and under.
