Brooklyn Symphony Orchestra: Mendelssohn, Elgar, Bridge
The Brooklyn Symphony Orchestra begins its season with a program of works celebrating the power of the sea. Felix Mendelssohn’s concert overture Calm Sea and Prosperous Voyage opens the performance, followed by Edward Elgar’s song cycle Sea Pictures, for which the BSO is joined by mezzo-soprano (and Brooklyn native) Sarah Nelson Craft. The program closes with The Sea, an impressionistic four-movement work by Frank Bridge, who both taught and inspired the renowned twentieth-century British composer Benjamin Britten.
Program:
Felix Mendelssohn, Calm Sea and Prosperous Voyage, op. 27
Edward Elgar, Sea Pictures, op. 37 (featuring Sarah Nelson Craft, mezzo-soprano)
Frank Bridge, The Sea, H. 100
Advance tickets are $15 for seniors and Museum Members and $20 for non-Members; same-day tickets are $25 at the door. Free for ages 16 and under. Tickets are available through the Brooklyn Symphony Orchestra.
