Description |
Oil lamp; pewter pedestal and colorless glass reservoir with metal and pewter fittings. Hollow balustrade-like pedestal has round domed base with two steps and a line of incised diagonal hatch marks between steps; rises to cylindrical stem that tapers upward, decorated with molded and incised lines; rises to stepped cylindrical barrel; then flares out into a wide, nearly flat rim. Suspended from underside edge of rim is "chain" of ivy vines with leaves and berries. Glass reservoir for oil is a hollow, squat, bulbous form; from bottom extends solid cylindrical shaft that fits into pedestal; at top, raised neck with small round opening; neck has metal (pewter?) threaded collar. Round metal top screws into neck; two 1 ¼" high tubes (feeds to oil) project from top at angle (soldered on); tubes taper upward to small opening. Suspended by gold-colored metal chain from top are two cone-shaped caps with flared opening; caps fit over tubes to snuff out flame. Without the glass reservoir, pedestal resembles a candlestick.
CONDITION: Fair; pedestal has all-over tarnish, scratches, pittings, and other discolorations. Reservoir has tarnished and corroded metal parts; glass reservoir has manufacturing imperfections (air bubbles and other foreign materials).
