Description |
Chippendale style side chair (a) and slip seat (b). Scroll carved serpentine crest rail with a foliate cluster at center and upturned, molded ears. Pierced scrolled splat with varying depth of carving. Sloping shoe. Plain seat rail. Triangular rear corner blocks, apparently original. Five-sided front corner blocks with narrow rectangular blocks placed between the front inner rail and the corner blocks, apparently replacements. Cabriole legs with frilled cabochons on the knees and knee brackets carved with foliate motifs. Exposed peg of mortise and tenon joinery at front and side of each front leg. Exposed square mortise and tenon with two locking pegs at the rail height of each rear leg. Stump rear legs. Repair to top of right back post and below through tenon at rear of left leg.
