Description |
Chrome-plated metal desktop inkstand and calendar comprised of base (a) and two removable plastic inkwells (b & c). (a) Base is a rectangular metal block set on four rubber feet at corners; front of base at proper right has recessed rectangular section (about 7 ½ x 2 ½") with four rounded channels along bottom for holding pens and pencils. On top of base behind pen-holder section are two rectangular cut-out glazed windows showing white paper (or canvas?) printed in black with the day (at proper right) and month (proper left); date can be changed by turning a grooved round dial sticking partially up through the base alongside each window. Proper left side of base has two cutout holes (aligned front and back) for the two inkwells (b & c). Brown and black plastic inkwells each have "well" that sinks into base, comprised of small cylindrical lower section surmounted by wider cylindrical upper section; top part of each inkwell is a wider, flat round disk that sits above base and rises into a rounded knob, top of knob angles down to round opening in center for dipping quill. On (b) the outer edge of disk and the knob section are brown and the rest of the inkwell is black; on (c) the entire inkwell is black, although there is some indication that it may have originally been painted brown like (b).
CONDITION: Fair; nicks and scratches all over base, especially on proper left side and front; small hairline crack in glass covering month window; worn and scratched surfaces on both inkwells.
