Description |
Renaissance Revival style folding armchair of walnut, gilt decoration, and original upholstery. Shield shape back with elaborate cut-out crest terminating at each corner in two large finials raised on four squat turnings. Crest with small applied burl and composition decorative panels. Upholstered back with vertical central machine woven floral panel on black ground between faded beige fabric. Floral panel continues on seat, front to back. Seat with long dark gold fringe. Front legs with square profile flare forward and continue from seat with downward curve to midpoint of back stiles. Front surface of legs and back with incised gold linear decoration. Simple turned stretcher between front and between back legs.
CONDITION: Very good original condition; slight loss to front top center crest; screw split wood proper right rear stile inner side; gimp on front of back raveled, numerous moth holes to seat and back upholstery. |
