Catalogue Description: Chinese blue-and-white porcelain plate. Made of fine-grained porcelain clay which fires tan on exposure to the kiln. Many small imperfections in body clay. Wide flat rim with scalloped edge; sturdy foot rim. Painted in underglaze cobalt which fires to a silvery blue. Rim design of lotus. Central design of cranes and pine. Under rim design of bird and flowering branch. All executed in an outline and wash technique. 6 character mark Da Ming xuande nian zhi on the base. This piece dates to the 16th century and is an example of Kraak Porcelain.
