Catalogue Description:
Glazed earthenware teapot (a) and lid (b); vitreous glaze, purple body with mottled dark purple and blue glaze. (a) Squat ovoid teapot with round opening in top; slopes upward at one side to form long integral spout with a flat top and rounded underside; bottom lip of spout flares out. Opposing handle in shape of sideways "U" attached at edge of opening and at bottom edge of body. Lower portion glazed in purple; upper portion (including top half of handle, top of spout, and around mouth) glazed in mottled dark purple and blue (probably applied over purple glaze). (b) Conforming round flat lid with attached handle in shape of "?"; top side of lid glazed in mottled dark purple and blue, underside in purple. CONDITION: Good; light scratches around body; a few deeper scratches on underside of handle and around spout.
