Catalogue Description: Side Chair, ebonized walnut with gilt incised decoration and original upholstery, wood and metal casters. An elaborate openwork symmetrical crest with a centered marquetry roundel with incised gilt decoration, scrolled ears and illusionistic drapery swag. Rectangular upholstered floating back with close tufts of original purple damask, now faded to light pink, flanked by elaborate symmetrical scrolls above tufted lower back rest. Sprung upholstered seat with tufting in original muslin cover. Square-profile splayed back legs. Pierced sunburst pendant at bottom center of front seat rail. Diagonal turned front legs terminating in robust hoof feet, connected by turned stretcher near bottom legs with turned upright supports from front stretcher to bottom of front seat. CONDITION - The tufted back retains its original, but much faded, purple damask. The seat and backrest retain the original upholstery scheme, but are in the original muslin only.
