Catalogue Description:
Irregularly shaped block consisting of crackled glass at the top and formed porcelain at the bottom. The piece appears to be a found piece of rock crystal except for the impressed finger marks on one side of the clay base, indicating that it was crafted by a ceramicist. Ogawa Machiko is a ceramic artist who often incorporates glass into her work. Her sculptural forms often refer to the dicotomy of ice and fire. This piece is from a group that addresses her interest in geology. She has developed a variety of ways of combining glass and clay, together with various minerals and firing conditions, to create new effects. Accompanied by the traditional wood storage box, signed and sealed by the artist.
