Catalogue Description: Wallpaper and border exhibitor, with border samples. Wooden, easel-style exhibitor in general form of a sled; with upright, rectangular box whose sides extend and taper to form front legs with scalloped edge; cut-out double scroll ornament at top of easel; rectangular stretchers across front of box at both top and bottom, bottom stretcher has scrolled lower edge; box hinged to simple frame support which swings out to form back legs of easel. Box contains four wooden rollers that work in tandem for scrolling through two rolls of blue canvas on which the wallpapers and borders are displayed; rollers attached to metal crank with wooden handle on side exterior; black arrows printed around cranks to indicate turning direction. Lower display section is larger and for main wallpaper selection; upper display is for borders. Eight sample border papers affixed (glued) to blue canvas in upper display register, they are decorated as follows: (1) main dark tan register bordered by black band with gold stylized clovers at top and bottom; (2) main register with flowers in browns, tans, maroons, and gold against an olive ground bordered by bands with geometric patterns in maroon, black, and gold at top and bottom; (3) green bird amidst flowering branches in greens, maroons, and black against a textured, gilded ground, bordered by bands with geometric patterns in black and browns at top and bottom; (4) conventionalized flowers and leaves with interwoven stems in greens, olives, and maroon against textured gilded ground, bordered by band with ribbon pattern in tan and gold at top and bottom; (5) main black register bordered by gold band with stylized clovers at top and bottom; (6) main register with flowering plants in tans with blue, red, and light green accents against a textured gold ground, above narrow bottom register with alternating tan squares with stylized gold flower with black center and maroon square with red flower with gold stem and leaves; (7) stylized flowers in tan, white, peach, and olive against textured gold ground bordered by black band with gold egg and dart pattern at top and bottom; (8) large fanciful flowers in dark and light burgundy against textured gold ground bordered by light burgundy band with black checkerboard at top and bottom. CONDITION - Fair; allover scratches and gouges in wooden easel; tears in blue canvas roll in lower (main) display register; gold lettering of marks worn.
