Catalogue Description:
Male figure in bronze, depicted standing straight on a carved wood base. The figure is crowned and raises his hands against his chest, apparently holding small flowers. He has a mustache and wears a short skirt and scalloped collar and ruffles at his shoulders. . It is likely that this is a small variant of the type of bronze figure -- usually appearing in pairs -- that appears to have represented departed ancestors in Balinese rituals. Little is known about this ancestral practice, but larger, more elaborate examples can be found in museums and temple collections. Bronze sculpture is extremely rare in Bali, mostly limited to these standing figures.
