Catalogue Description:
Side Chair. Dark stained walnut and old light-green floral silk damask. Floating circular upholstered back with star-pattern tufting, with conforming arched crest connected by seven short turned dowels each topped by a small sphere, supported below by conforming arched member connected by seven short squat dowels capped by turned bottons, all connected to back of seat frame by two turned vertical supports. Diagonal side braces with curved joint at mid-point connected to side mid-point back, side mid-point of seat frame, and then descend to form front legs. Front of circular seat wirh star-pattern tufting supported by two turned upright members interrupted by square blocks with applied turned buttons and upright square-shape support with rounded corners that extend to front cross-stretcher connected at lower front legs. Back square-profile cabriole legs attached to outer back seat frame and rise above seat frame to conical finials. CONDITION - Stable condition. Unfortunate later dark brown stain and heavy shellac finish. Old break and repair to one of seven circular dowels below seat back.
