Catalogue Description:
Side Chair, walnut, bird's eye maple veneer, metal mounts, new green horse hair show cover; klismos-form; the rectangular crest rail is contained within the rear stiles, with a centered single lozenge-shaped metal mount; the square-profile rear stiles are notched above the seat frame, and carved with a recessed convex field above; four carved volute triangular brackets embellish the corners of the rectangular void below the crest rail, the top brackets are attached to the stiles and bottom of the crest rail and the bottom two are attached to the stiles above the back of the seat frame; trapezoidal slip seat frame; the front corners of seat frame are formed by square-profile posts of front legs; the front legs are columnar and decorated with a ball and two ring turnings above a tapered faceted shaft above a tapered round foot. CONDITION - The object has been recently restored and is in good condition. Appears to retain part of original upholstery scheme. Upholstery conserved by Elizabeth Lahikainen on November 09. 1995.
