Catalogue Description: Watercolor painting of one of the polychrome murals decorating a ceremonial altar at the temple complex of Tizatlan. The painting in red, turquoise, tan, brown, black and beigefeatures human skulls, hearts, and plant and mountain glyphs among other Mixtec codex-style images. Tizatlan was one of several independent polities that constituted the late pre-Hispanic confederacy of Tlaxcala (1150-1521 C.E.) in central Mexico. Condition: fair; five small loses and three small tears along the top. Puncture holes made by thumbtacks? all over work.
