Catalogue Description:
Seal, hematite, pierced vertically. Three vertical panels of Old Babylonian inscription. Two standing figures, one male, and one female figure facing frontal. The figures, almost crudely incised, with use of drill for heads, may have been added after this deal was inscribed. They were not cut in the same manner as the inscription which is well done. The theme and subject matter, the frontal nude “goddess” is characteristically Syrian. The use of Syrian iconography combined with Old Babylonian inscription places this seal early in the development of Syrian glyptic. Condition: Good.
