Catalogue Description:
Tablespoon with molded decoration that begins at top with a symmetrical rococo cartouche. Below this is a protruding asymmetrical stylized C-scroll. On opposite side (left) are two smaller C-scrolls; both are incurved and aligned back to front; the smaller on the inside of the larger. Above the double C-scrolls are a rose and a small incurved C-scroll (right). In center of handle is polished undecorated reserve, which is asymmetrical (intended for initials). Below reserve on both left and right edges are rinceaux vines; each of slightly different shape and size than the other. Below on the right edge is a stylized fish or dolphin. Decoration on lower handle consists of a raised line border, on both left and right edges, that is interrupted by out curved volutes; the lines stemming from the volutes form their own line borders. Below this (left) is a stylized vine pattern that meanders downward and terminates at bowl. A shorter vine frames the right edge. Decoration on reverse is very similar to that on front; however, missing is the rose and small C-scroll (near top) and is replaced by a stippled ground. The stylized fish is replaced by a polished reserve, framed by C-scrolls to form an asymmetrical cartouche. Columbia Pattern. Condition: Good; there are minor marks of pitting on the surface; some of the plate has worn off.
