Catalogue Description:
Circular shaped basket is raised on four anthemion-shaped feet with tri-parted, reticulated, sprawling acanthus vines attached to the base of the stem. Stem is incurved and tapers toward the neck. Circular bowl has a convex center and a down-curved lip, decorated with continuous pattern consisting of a diamond-shaped abstract floral motif, framed by a scrolling leaf pattern with a pair of florets, above and below, and separated by a conventionalized bifurcated mirror-image floral motif. The interior of the bowl is decorated with a quatrefoil, each lobe of which contains a sunflower, with two leaves and an Oriental-inspired diamond pattern. Soldered to two sides of bowl top, are anthemion-decorated brackets, which secure a moveable bail. Bases of the bail are decorated with a reticulated fan and a floral motif. Demi-lune finial contains gothic-inspired roundels with seven small knobs across the top. CONDITION: Good. Bowl form is slightly distorted and bent; lip has a vertical crack, possibly caused by stress on soldered joint; surface has minor oxidation and requires some cleaning
