Catalogue Description: Side Chair, walnut, unupholstered (chair originally received with later upholstery, removed for exhibition purposes: Seat was covered with muslin and stuffing, no original upholstery left). Chair is dark-stained with mainly turned parts composed of rectangular back raised atop gently currving legs. set into which is an oval panel meant to be upholstered, but which is left bare. From the top of the back two small curved pieces attach to two long, straight, turned lengths of wood that form arms and front legs, while supporting the seat from two sides. The two legs joined by a front stretcher to which descend a pair of straight, turned seat supports. CONDITION - Chair is stable. Finish slightly worn but original. Tack holes surround inner oval of rear back (none original). Numerous tack holes (many probable original ) around front of back. Numerous repairs to seat; circular plywood piece placed atop frame; large piece of wood inserted on inside proper left side; many parts glued with white glue over many surfaces; proper right dowel attaching leg to seat frame replaced; many small pieces missing or replaced. Small rondel missing from square post at interssection of arm or back, proper front left. Both rondels missing from blocks on front stretcher. Stretcher nicked, slight losses where sitters feet touch. proper right arm/leg scuffed along outside edge, numerous scuffs, scratches slight losses to all surfaces. Front feet scuffed and worn.
