Catalogue Description: From "Korean Art Collection in the Brooklyn Museum" catalogue: This fan painting is in the Ni Zan style, with the highly stereotyped subject of "sparse trees and thatched roof pavilion." However, the use of the wet brush, the emphasis on the foreground, and the inclusion of the figure contrast with Ni Zan's original compositions and style. The painting thus shows how Ni Zan's landscape motif was adopted and transformed in late Joseon painting. The blue curtain on the foreground pavilion particularly reflects a modern sensibility.
