Catalogue Description:
Silver aquamanile or laver in the shape of a lion, possibly for synagogue use. One forepaw is supported by a scrolled shield, on which is engraved a lion rampant. Bifurcated spout (serpents' heads) is in lion's mouth. Tail in "S" curve over the back is supported by a grotesque gryphon. The type is that of medieval aquamaniles, which the design and treatment is baroque German. Condition: Good. Signs of numerous old repairs evident.
