Notes: I. Sept. 3. Notre Dame-22. South Gallery curve in plan from 1st bay looking east. Take straight line stretched on the pavement. Surveyor's rod across it to masure curve. Curve 9 inches in 148 ft. Eastman camera making an exposure on the curve at other end of the gallery. Highly important is the plumb-line suspended from 3rd pier left. It shows the vertical lines of the gallery piers to be perpendicular on the interior surfaces. Thus the exterior bulge cannont be due to thrust. Compare. The outer wall curves in parallel line. See. The clerestory wall curve above the curve of this view is shown by. Note curve in elevation of window ledges built to line with same curve in caps and parapet. First observed in [steamer] 'Pretoria'.
