CATALOGUE DESCRIPTION One alabaster lion's head. The head is frontal with open eyes and closed mouth. The ruff of the mane, which is represented in relief upon an apron-like downward extension of the mane, is divided at the bottom, forming a kind of "slot" benrath the beast's throat. The piece once formed part of a piece of furniture, perhaps an alabaster offering table. There is a horizontal projection from the left side of the mane (top border of the table?) and a vertical projection from the right side of the mane (corner of the table?). The piece was broken off diagonally from the rear of the head forwards and downwards to the "apron". Condition: Nose, rats, and projecting border on the left are chipped. The throat is pitted. Small scratches here and there with brown incrustation in hollows.
