This work was painted around 1840 or 1850. The artist's identity is not known, but the painting depicts a small rural landscape in the United States.This was a point in which industrialization had started to change the landscape of many areas in the United States and artists were interested in showing more rural, pristine landscapes out of a sense of nostalgia.
