Earth Forge II

Object Label
The coiling inner structure of Seymour Lipton’s Earth Forge II suggests the processes hidden within both the natural world and the human mind. As the artist said: “What goes on behind the flower in the bud, what goes on in wintertime under the ground, what goes on in the hidden recesses of the human heart and the human mind, these things are very real to me.” The inner world of nature becomes a refuge from the hustle and bustle of 1950s America.
