CATALOGUE DESCRIPTION Circular medal in presentation box. One side: allegorical figure of fame blowing trumpet and holding shields, seated on clouds; central scene bordered by two rings of text, outer ring: "MEDAL STRUCK BY THE UNITED PROVINCE OF THE NETHERLANDS TO COMMEMORATE THEIR TREATY WITH THE UNITED STATES"; inner ring: "FAUSTISSIMO FOEDERE JUNCTAE / DIE VII OCTOB. MDCCLXXXII." Other side: scene of winged Mercury aloft and placing wreath on shield on monument consisting of square base surmounted by obelisk; anchor, rooster, and basket of fruit on ground below Mercury, sailing ships in distance; central scene bordered by two rings of text, outer text: "PRESENTED BY THE HOLLAND SOCIETY OF NEW YORK JANUARY 1905"; inner ring: "JUSTINIAM ETNON TEMNERE DIVOS / S.P.Q. AM ST. / SACRUM." Presentation box: round cardboard box with lid covered in orange paper, printed on top of lid: "PRESENTED BY / THE HOLLAND SOCIETY / OF NEW YORK / The Bailey Banks & Biddle Co. / Makers / Philadelphia."
