Notice that this chest is much visually lighter than the kas found inside the Schenck house itself. Though it didn't have the same gravitas as an heirloom, a decorative chest like this still would have been a prized possession. The pieces outside the Jan Martense Schenck house are meant to give more context and show what you might have found in an American home in the 18th century.
