CATALOGUE DESCRIPTION
Glazed steatite scarab. The scarab is of conventional form and of exceptionally fine workmanship. It is carefully pierced as if to be set in a ring. It was originally glazed with a brilliant blue-green glaze of which extensive traces remain in the interstices. The hieroglyphs on the base are rather crudely cut. Surmounting them is an unidentified sign. The determinative for woman is clearly discernible so it seems probable that the inscription contains the name of a lady of the period.
Condition: Glaze worn slightly, long crack running across upper part.
