Vase with Looped Handles

Asian Art

As with other ceramics made during the Qianlong period, this hu-shaped vessel refers to ancient ritual bronzes, while the glaze recalls the pale blue tint of the finest Song-dynasty celadons. The clair de lune glaze was first used at the imperial kilns at Jingdezhen during the Kangxi period (1662–1722). This shade of blue is called tian lan you (sky after the rain).
