Mirror Disk

Egyptian, Classical, Ancient Near Eastern Art

On View: Funerary Gallery 3, Martha A. and Robert S. Rubin Gallery, 3rd Floor
Originally, the bronze disks in this case were attached to wooden handles to form mirrors. At the time of burial, the mirrors were stored in linen covers. Over the centuries, both the handles and the bags disintegrated. The smaller of these two disks still shows an impression of the linen, created by the material’s interaction with the bronze.
