On March 8, 1886, a Chinese porcelain vase with the highly sought-after red to yellow shading of the glaze termed "peachblow," from the collection of Mary J. Morgan of Baltimore, sold at auction for the staggering sum of $18,000 to W. T. Walters, founder of the city’s Walters Art Gallery.
