INSCRIPTIONS
The inscription on this vase is the opening line to the 11th century Chinese poet
Su Shih/Su Tong-p’o’s ODE TO THE RED CLIFF:
“In the autumn of the year jen-shu (1082), on the sixteenth day
of the seventh month, I took some guest on an excursion by boat
under the red cliff.”
(note that original Chinese version takes place in 10th month)
