CATALOGUE DESCRIPTION
Roughly square low box with lid that covers the full top and sides of the box. Full exterior of lid is decorated with inlaid mother-of-pearl, set into a black lacquer ground. The inlay creates a decoration of a budding plum tree with bamboo leaves below, flanked by the sun and moon. This nearly square image is framed by a wide band of floral decoration in the form of scrolling flowers, possibly stylized peonies. The sides of the lid are decorated with a similar motif of scrolling flowers. The corners of the lid are supported by metal bands.
