CATALOGUE DESCRIPTION Kananginak Pootoogook was a prominent artist of the Cape Dorset community creating work in stone sculpture first then etching, drawing, and lithography. This drawing uses an aerial perspective to depict great detail of reveal daily Inuit life; catching seals, walrus and other wild-life. From his personal perspective as an Indigenous hunter Pootoogook can accurately depict such a scene representing his specific knowledge. He portrays himself on the far right of the drawing as well as other knowledge of his specific Arctic world; a combination of traditional life combined with these elements of the modern world that are useful to him. In this way he portrays some of the complexity of Inuit life experiences.
