Tea Bowl
Kakurezaki Ryuichi
Asian Art
Kakurezaki Ryuichi is a leader among living ceramicists who are inspired by tradition but not restricted by it. He works at the ancient ceramic center of Bizen and is celebrated for his modern interpretations of unglazed Bizen ware. But Kakurezaki has experimented with many different types of ceramic manufacture. For this tea bowl, he cut the sides and center from a block of clay and covered the faceted surface with Oribe-style green glaze.
