    In 1973 the artist Lynn Hershman Leeson began a private performance as the fictional character Roberta Breitmore. She started by checking into hotels using the name and eventually pursued other real-life activities as the character including opening a bank account and renting an apartment.
    Her activities were documented in 144 artifacts including drawings, surveillance photos, and checks like this one!
