What's it about?
This is called "Elementos Arquitectonicos #2" by Cuban artist Alexandre Arrechea, it evokes the idea of building a self-identity under circumstances of difficulty. Arrechea's work involves concepts of power and its network of hierarchies, surveillance, control, prohibitions, and subjection, particularly in countries that were colonized by European powers. We can interpret this image as rebuilding one's nation, which then helps build a self-identity.
Can you tell me more about this piece?
Hi there. This work is by Cuban artist Alexandre Arrechea and his works tend to deal with power and its network of hierarchies, surveillance, control, prohibitions, and subjection. Much of his work questions architecture, and our understandings of architectural space. Here you can see bricks, steel rebar and a rusted door knob.
What I like about this work, is how aware the viewer is of the weight and strain of all these bricks.
