CATALOGUE DESCRIPTION
Smoking set, glazed earthenware. The molded yellowware form is figural. The scene is of a monk retrieving water from a well. The monk holds a pitcher in one hand. The well appears to be outside the abbey on a cliff. The well, basin, abbey and pitcher are open so that they can hold various items. The item has a yellow glaze with traces of gilt on the door and monks belt.
Condition: Good overall condition. Chip with accumulated surface dirt on upper back edge of 'abbey' and to top of monk's cap. Cracks along bottom rear edge of monk's habit, probably due to firing. Yellow stains to front lower edge. Loss of gilding.
