CATALOGUE DESCRIPTION
Soup plate, glazed earthenware. The yellow-ware bowl is a deep muted mustard color with brown speckles. The shallow bowl has a wide lip with an irregular scalloped edge. The interior bowl area has a smooth surface. The lip is framed by a raised edge. The center area of the lip different scenes, each repeated twice in an alternating pattern. Unidentifiable flags, possibly territory markers, frame each scene. The scenes feature: a standing bison; a covered wagon pulled by oxen and with a mounted figure trailing behind; a charging mounted figure (a Native American?); and a meeting between seated Native Americans on one side of a camp fire and standing settlers on the other side. The more narrative scenes are larger in size.
Condition: Good overall condition with heavy crazing.
