Brooch
Decorative Arts and Design
Marion Anderson Noyes was one of the few American women of the twentieth century to have a long and active career as a professional metalsmith. Beginning in the late 1930s, she designed both modernist flatware and hollowware for major firms including Reed & Barton and Towle. She also occasionally fashioned handmade jewelry such as the three closely related brooches seen here. The simple stylized interpretation of nature reflects earlier twentieth-century jewelry design, especially from Vienna.
