CATALOGUE DESCRIPTION
Salt-glazed stoneware wine press; tan ground, molded decorations, blue glaze accents. Squat, spherical body sectioned into six vertical sections set on round foot rim; tall cylindrical neck rises from body and flares out, ending in wide mouth with rim. Two opposing short cylindrical spouts extend from lower edge of body. On sides between spouts, handles attached flush to neck in shape of arched form with scrolled ends set above leaves. Molded decorations: around bottom edge and on border between each section, bunch of flowers. Above both spouts: eagle standing atop crest, flanked on each side by cornucopia filled with fruits, and framed above by banner impressed "AMOS SEAVEY. CHELSEA" (letters filled in with blue glaze). Around top edge below rim, hanging grape vines.
CONDITION: Fair; large losses/chips around foot rim (wine press no longer sits level); chips around mouth of both spouts; large cracks around both handles, on one side, crack extends to bottom.
