Object Label

This rectangular box and lid are covered with designs evoking the images of autumn, featuring flowers on a garden fence, sprays of chrysanthemums, and bush clover executed in gold lacquer on a black background. Boxes of this kind contained Buddhist ritual implements or sacred scrolls.
