The Brooklyn Museum is exhibiting today (December 15) an exhibit of about 35 photographs on twelve European countries, by Ernest Rathenau. The exhibition will remain on view through January 12.
Mr. Rathenau has recently returned from four trips, through almost every country in Europe, which aided greatly in amassing a selection of photographs for this exhibit. His photographs are a documentary study of the European way of life.
In his early years Mr. Rathenau studied photography and later the history of art. He received a degree of Doctor of Laws. Years later as an art publisher he published works by Edvard Munch and Oskar Kokoschka and others. During the term of Germany’s political order he came to this country and studied sculpturing with the late Bernhard Sopher and painting with Charlotte Berend-Corinth. Now he concentrates on photography. His photographs have been published in the United States, Canada, Mexico, England, Holland, Sweden, Switzerland, Germany and Italy.
His book, “Orientals”, published by J. J. Augustin, N. Y., were pictures selected from four trips around the world prior to World War II.
