The diversity of artistic thought and production in contemporary Israeli art will be the topic of a panel discussion at The Brooklyn Museum on Sunday, June 19, at 2 P.M. in the Museum Auditorium, located on the third floor. Entitled “A Forum of Israeli Artists,” the panel discussion i.s being held in conjunction with the Museum’s special exhibition 40 from Israel: Contemporary Sculpture and Drawing, which is on view through June 27. The exhibition features 80 works -- one drawing and one sculpture -- by a representative group of 40 Israeli artists who work in the mainstream of international art. The panel discussion is free with Museum admission (suggested contribution: $3 for adults, $1.50 for students, and $1 for senior citizens, free to members and children under 12 accompanied by an adult).
The moderator of the panel will be Reviva Regev, artist and teacher at Teachers Art College, Ramat Hasharon, Israel. Ms. Regev selected and organized the exhibition in cooperation with Linda Konheim Kramer, Curator of Prints and Drawings at The Brooklyn Museum. Panelists will be Ilan Averbuch, Zigi Ben-Haim, Yaakov Hefetz, Hava Mehutan, and Dina Recanati, artists whose work is represented in 40 from Israel. Sunday’s program will include a slide presentation on Israeli sculpture by Ms. Regev, and will be followed by a short reception for panel members and the audience.

40 from Israel: Contemporary Sculpture and Drawing, an exhibition of 80 works by a representative group of 40 contemporary Israeli artists who work in the mainstream of international art, will open at The Brooklyn Museum April 18 and remain on view in the Prints and Drawings Galleries, located on the second floor, through June 27, 1988. Artists represented include Zigi Ben-Haim, Pinchas Cohen-Gan, Teresa Gejer, Menashe Kadishman, Osvaldo Romberg, and Igael Tumarkin, as well as others who are less well known in the United States. Theworks, one drawing and one sculpture by each artist, have not been seen before outside Israel.
The exhibition emphasizes the important relationship between artists’ drawings and their sculpture. The wide variety of media and styles is evidence of the personal and individual character of the art being produced in Israel today. 40 from Israel has been organized and selected by Reviva Regev, artist and teacher at Teachers Art College, Ramat Hasharon, in cooperation with Linda Konheim Kramer, Curator of Prints and Drawings at The Brooklyn Museum.
40 from Israel is one of a number of cultural events being presented in Brooklyn initiated by the Brooklyn Borough President, Howard Golden, on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of Israel’s founding.
