  • March 25, 1970 “Art Deco”, the theme of the Annual Ball and Exhibition sponsored by the Community Committee of The Brooklyn Museum April 18, is a preview of two important Museum installations - the 20th Century period rooms and the costume galleries now under construction - and of a future major international loan exhibition of the art and design of the 1920’s and 1930’s. The exhibition scheduled for April 1970 will be on view through the 25th of the month.

A champagne reception at 8:00 p.m. will preceed[sic] the Art Deco Ball in the Auditorium Court of the Museum, Eastern Parkway, Brooklyn. A buffet supper and dancing to music by Lester Lanin will follow and continue until 2:00 a.m. Proceeds from the affair will benefit the educational programs of the Museum. Admission to the Ball is $60 a couple. Interested patrons may call the Community Committe[e] office, 789 - 2493 for additional information.

The exhibition will bring together choice examples of costumes, furniture, paintings, sculpture, and prints from the Museum’s extensive collections. Twenty costumes by such great couturiers as Jeanne Lanvin, Pacquin, Paul Poiret, and Mario Fortuny will be on exhibition, as well as a delightful series of forty plates from Le Gazette du Bon Ton, published in Paris between 1920 and 1925 presenting fas[h]ion plates by Georges Lepape, Benito, A. E. Marty, Raoul Dufy and many others.

In addition, there will be furniture by Marcel Breuer and Hammond Kroll; paintings by Marie G. Jaulmes, Lyonel Feininger, and Georgia O’Keef[f]e; sculpture by Alexander Archipenko, and Elie Nadelman, and posters of E. McKnight Kauffer.
