The 4th National Print Annual opens to the public today (March 22nd). A private view was held yesterday (March 21st) for Museum members, exhibiting artists and guests. The exhibition will remain on view through May 21st.
The exhibition is comprised of 227 prints representing all contemporary graphic arts media. The selections were made from approximately 1400 entries and represent the work of artists from thirty-two states and Hawaii. Although the most distinguished and noteworthy examples appear in the media of engraving, etching and woodcut, the exhibition as a whole constitutes an impressive cross-section of American printmaking at the mid-twentieth century.
Members of the jury of selection and award were Aline B. Louchheim, art critic for the New York Times; Stanley William Hayter, artist and teacher; and Una E. Johnson, Curator of Prints and Drawings, the Brooklyn Museum.

A selection of prints from each of the three previous annuals have been circulated throughout the country by the American Federation of Arts, and this year, two months before the opening of the exhibit, the Federation announced that the 1950 show was completely booked for the coming year.
