The Print Department of the Brooklyn Museum is arranging an exhibition “Lithographs and Etchings by Edouard Manet” to open Friday, February 9th, and run through Sunday, March 31st. About thirty papers will be shown, which amounts to about a third of Manet’s output in this field as he is known to have executed only seventy-five etchings and twelve lithographs. Four of the papers will be those belonging to the Museum so that the rest will be loan material.
Many of the examples will be from a group lent to the Museum for the duration of the war by an anonymous French collector. Mr. Carl O. Schniewind, Curator of Prints and Drawings, says that many of the impressions are of exceptional quality and in the group lent by the French collector are some of the best examples that he has ever seen. The exhibition will include many rare and some unique impressions.
