  • March 12, 1933 The forty-third exhibition of the Department of Photography of the Brooklyn Institute of Arts and Sciences will open at the Brooklyn Museum on March 7th. The public opening will be preceeded by the private view for exhibitors and their friends on Monday evening March 6th.

    Though the same period a Memorial Exhibition of the photographic work of Myers R. Jones will be shown in an adjoining gallery. Mr. Jones a retired lawyer was a prominent member of the Photographic Department of the Institute and had held many offices in it. At the time of his decease in July of last year he was chairman of the Executive Committee. He was at one time Deputy Comptroller of the old city of Brooklyn. After his retirement from professional life Mr. Jones devoted a large part of his time to process-work in artistic photography and maintained a well-equipped studio in his residence. He had been a member of the Photographic Department for the past 39 years.

    The present exhibition by the Department will number 169 prints chosen for the display by a jury composed of Dr. D. J. Ruzieka, photographer; Thomas O. Sheckell, photographer and Herbert B. Tschudy, Curator of Paintings and Sculpture, Brooklyn Museum.
    Officers of the Department are, H. Richardson Cremer, President; Antoinette B. Hervey, Vice President; John C. Tredwell, Secretary; Dwight N. Streeter, Treasurer; George W. Tidd, Librarian. Walter E. Owen is Chairman of the Exhibition Committee.

    Various technics are represented in the photographs including two in the advanced technic of color printing.

    Among the exhibitors are: Joseph Kraysler, Eleanor Fischer, Mary Callaghan, Sam P. Ward and John Christenson.
