Mark di Suvero

About this Brooklyn Icon

The Brooklyn Museum is commemorating its 200th anniversary by spotlighting 200 standout objects in its encyclopedic collection.

Known for dynamic, oversize sculptures set in urban environments and parks, Mark di Suvero advocates for the public seeing “beauty that has been passed over.” He explains, “By putting [art] out on the streets, you open it up to the world. Bringing art to the people has a kind of joy, a liberation that nothing else can equal.” With its tight curves, sharp angles, and thick beams reaching to the sky, Sooner or Later is a premier example of the artist’s outdoor objects.
